BMP7-100

BMP-7 is a member of the Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMPs) family, which is important for the development of bone and cartilage.

Description
BMP-7 is a member of the Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMPs) family, which is important for the development of bone and cartilage. BMPs belong to the TGF-β superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins. BMP proteins are synthesized as large precursor molecules that are cleaved by proteolytic enzymes. The active form of BMPs can consist of a dimer of two identical proteins or a heterodimer of two related bone morphogenetic proteins. BMPs signal through type I and type II receptor tyrosine kinases and signal through SMAD proteins.
BMP-7 is a potent bone inducing agent, which in the presence of appropriate osteoconductive carrier (e.g. collagen sponge or synthetic hydroxyapatite) can be used in the treatment of bone defects. The potential use of BMP-7 in dental reconstructive surgeries is currently under investigation.
