BMP8b-100

BMP-8, also known as osteogenic protein 2 (OP2), is a member of the Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMPs) family, which is important for the development of bone and cartilage.

Description
BMP-8, also known as osteogenic protein 2 (OP2), is a member of the Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMPs) family, which is important for the development of bone and cartilage. BMPs belong to the TGF-β superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins. BMP proteins are synthesized as large precursor molecules that are cleaved by proteolytic enzymes. The active form of BMPs can consist of a dimer of two identical proteins or a heterodimer of two related bone morphogenetic proteins. BMPs signal through type I and type II receptor tyrosine kinases and signal through SMAD proteins.
BMP-8b is required for both the initiation and maintenance of spermatogenesis. BMP-8b is also highly expressed in osteosarcomas and pancreatic cancer, and it contributes to tumor progression. BMP-8b is also expressed in adipose tissue and the hypothalamus where it contributes to the regulation of energy balance and thermogenesis.
