Easy to use
Stable support

Versatile application

Description:
Gellan Gum is an anionic polysaccharide used as a modern alternative to agar for media in plant tissue culture and microbiology. Compared to agar, it forms a clearer and more transparent gel, allowing easier monitoring of root development or potential contamination. Only half the amount is needed compared to agar, making it an economical and efficient choice.

Features:

  • Easy to use – simple to handle in the laboratory
  • Transparent gel – enables quick identification of successful cultivation or contamination
  • Stable support – provides excellent structural support for explants and ensures efficient nutrient absorption
  • Economical – only 3–4 g per 1 liter of medium, compared to 6–8 g of agar
  • Versatile application – ideal for solidifying media in both plant tissue and microbial cultures

Instructions for use:
To prepare 1 liter of medium, follow these steps:

  1. Add 4.54 g of PCT’s MS Media (or other suitable medium), 30 g of sugar, and PPM™ (1–2 ml per liter as needed) to 800 ml of distilled water
  2. Top up with water to a final volume of 1,000 ml
  3. Adjust pH to 5.4–5.8
  4. Add 3–4 g of Gellan Gum and mix well
  5. Sterilize in an autoclave for 20 minutes at 15 psi and 121°C

Applications:

  • Replaces agar for solidifying media in plant tissue culture (both in vitro and microbial cultivation)
  • Transparent gel allows fast visual inspection of cultures
  • Dosage: 0.2–0.4% (2–4 g/l) to solidify medium

Available sizes:

100 g (Cat. No. GG100)
500 g (Cat. No. GG500)
1 kg (Cat. No. GG1000)
5 kg (Cat. No. GG5K000)
