Plant Preservative Mixture (PPM™)

Broad-spectrum effect
Heat-stable
Does not cause mutations

Volume: 30 ml

Description:
Plant Preservative Mixture (PPM™) is a broad-spectrum biocide specifically designed for plant tissue cultures. It is intended to eliminate and prevent microbial contamination originating from air, water, and endogenous sources. With PPM™, you can increase the success rate and vitality of your cultures while reducing the costs associated with failed attempts.

Features:

  • Does not affect plant growth: Unlike antibiotics, it does not inhibit seed germination in vitro, callus proliferation, or tissue regeneration.

  • Autoclavable and heat-stable: Can be added to the medium before sterilization in an autoclave.

  • Broad-spectrum effect: Effective against both bacteria and fungal spores.

  • More economical than antibiotics: Used in small amounts—typically 1–2 ml per 1 liter of medium. Higher concentrations may be used for stronger endogenous contamination.

  • Does not cause mutations: PPM™ does not affect the genetic profile of plants.

  • Easy to use: PPM™ can be used as a regular additive to tissue culture media, increasing the success of clean plant propagation.

Recommended use:

  • Typical dosage: 0.05–0.2% PPM™ in the medium (for callus and organogenesis: 0.05–0.075%). Higher doses are required to eliminate stronger endogenous contamination.

  • Explant sterilization: Brief, gentle mixing of explants in 4–5% PPM™ for 4–12 hours, then place in medium with the recommended PPM™ concentration depending on the plant type (herbaceous: 0.05–0.1%, woody: 0.2%).

  • Can also be applied to tubers, bulbs, etc.: After prior sterilization in bleach (e.g., Savo) and rinsing with clean water.

Applications:

  • Control of airborne, waterborne, and endogenous microbial contamination

  • Support for the success of in vitro propagation experiments

  • Maintaining viability of cultures, promoting regeneration, and ensuring medium stability
