Growth hormone
Root stimulator
Plant auxin

Pack size: 5 g

Description:

Indole-3-Acetic Acid (IAA) is a natural plant growth regulator from the auxin family, essential for cell division and elongation processes in plants. This hormone promotes root initiation, tissue growth and differentiation, and plays a vital role in plant development in cultures.

Features:

  • Easy to use as an additive in growth media, such as Murashige & Skoog (MS) or Gamborg’s medium.
  • Promotes both primary and lateral root formation.
  • Regulates growth and developmental processes such as cell division, elongation, and tissue differentiation.

Synonyms

IAA; Heteroauxin

Molecular Formula

C10H9NO2

Molecular Weight

175.19 g/mol

CAS No. 87-51-4

Solubility

Very slightly soluble in water; more soluble in 1N NaOH or KOH

Preparation guide:

  • Prepare the culture medium (e.g., MS or DKW) as required.
  • Add sugar (30 g/l), PPM (1 ml/l), and a gelling agent (3–4 g/l gellan gum or 6–8 g/l agar).
  • Add the required amount of IAA.
  • Sterilize the medium in an autoclave at 121 °C for 20 minutes.
  • The medium is ready for use.

Usage:

  • Plays a significant role in cell enlargement, division, and tissue differentiation.
  • In plant tissue culture, supports the development of shoots and roots.
  • Used in horticulture to promote adventitious root formation.
  • Serves as an important additive in growth media for callus initiation.
  • Can be applied as an auxin spray to increase fruit set and prevent premature fruit drop.
